Emotional Fathers Day Message Templates You Can Use
Father's Day is a celebration of fathers and fatherhood. It is a day to honor the men who have helped shape our lives, support us through difficult times, and give us a foundation for living good lives as adults. And it's also about celebrating dad jokes, which are pretty much universally considered awesome by kids everywhere.
Sure, your dad has no problem rattling off his silly brand of humor, but showing your appreciation for his inimical style is a bit more challenging. Fortunately, there are plenty of Father's Day messages for cards that can help. Messages can include one-liners and longer phrases, quotes, or just the contents of your heart, laid bare for your father to see.
However you like to express your emotions, you'll find good starter material below, whether you're celebrating your dad, your father-in-law, or wishing a friend happy father's day. Remember that your dad loves you no matter what, so you don't need to stress about whether your sentiments will be well-received. Just say what's on your heart using the templates below to guide your hand. Your dad will appreciate the effort on his big day!
Father's Day Almost Didn't Exist
Mother's Day was officially recognized in the United States in 1914. One might think that Father's Day followed close behind, but the truth is that fathers were almost universally uninterested. The flowers and gifts associated with Mother's Day didn't sit as well with burly, turn-of-the-century men, that felt Father's Day would unfairly domesticate their manhood.
Additionally, the mostly patriarchal society of the day viewed fatherhood as the dominant role in the family. The idea of celebrating it more than it already was felt unfair to women. Their role was already diminished, and keeping Mother's Day a solitary holiday allowed them (it was felt) an extra degree of recognition. Father's Day remained a shadow of itself for decades. It wasn't until 1972 that Nixon's administration recognized Father's Day as a national holiday.
Of course, just like with Mother's Day, the early opposition gave way to widespread support and celebration by the mid-twentieth century. Father's Day is now just as popular as Mother's day, if not more so. It is celebrated in 70 countries around the world.
Father's Day also has a prominent commercial element. In the United States, retailers make a whopping $20 billion in sales on Father's Day gifts . Father's day is now basically as important as Mother's day for businesses that rely on gift-giving holidays to drive sales.

Dear Dad,
I'm so glad you're my father! I don't know what I would do without you. You're an amazing dad! You've always been there for me, even when I was being a pain in the butt (and let's be honest...that was most of the time.) I hope you have a great Father's Day! Also, you're welcome for finally growing up and realizing you were right all along!
Love you more than I ever say!

Dear Dad,
Great job making it through my childhood! I'm sorry for making your life so hard. If it wasn't for you, I'd probably be in jail by now or living on the streets. Of course, have you seen my apartment? Maybe jail would be an upgrade! I'm joking, of course, but without your guidance and patience, I really don't know where I would be today. Thanks for always being there when I needed you. You're the best, Dad!
Love you bunches,
Jim

Hey Dad,
Here's to another year of you not working up the courage to tell me that I'm adopted! You claim it's not true, but have you seen me try and fix...anything? Clearly your knack for all things home repair didn't wear off on me. I can't imagine we even share the same genetics! One day I'm sure you'll reveal the truth. Until then, have an awesome Father's Day! Standard shipping methods apply!
Love,
Your favorite daughter (this isn't a competition, I swear!)

Dear Dad,
I'm sorry for all the times I have embarrassed you, but mostly because it embarrasses me to see you so red in the face! Sorry...that was horrible. But when I review picture memories — go to the video tape — I can see that I was pretty terrible. Anyways, thanks for being so understanding. With a kid like me, you never know what to expect, but neither do I! Thanks for always letting me be myself even when it drives you crazy. Anyway, thanks for being such a wonderful uncle. Just kidding ... dad! Love you to the moon!
Your loving daughter,
Janice

Hey Dad,
I know you're a little surprised that I got you a card. I decided that my normal process — a phone call three weeks after Father's Day where I totally forget about Father's Day — doesn't really cut it anymore. You deserve better than the above time frame. You've always done right by us, and I know that I'm really lucky to have you as my father. You're the best!
Happy Father's Day!

Dear Dad,
They say that a day without laughter is a day wasted. If that's true, then I can say without reservation that you've never wasted a day in our lives. You're definitely someone who has a way of bringing the funny, and all of your kids are better for it. Thanks for keeping us all in stitches (especially when some of us were actually in stitches!) They're all my favorite memories. Happy Father's Day, Dad!
Love,
Jenny and George

Dear Pop,
This is your day, Dad. You deserve it! So go enjoy yourself and don't feel guilty that you're not doing something with us. We'll be fine, just sitting on the couch doing nothing while you enjoy yourself. Really, we don't mind at all! We'll just be here thinking about all the fun we could be having with you. But this is your day, so just bring us back something nice. Thanks! Just kidding...happy Father's Day! You're a wonderful dad, and you deserve it.
Love,
Mia and Lisa

Dear Dad,
You have always been there for me. Whether it was the night I came home late and you were up waiting for me (and somehow still got up early enough to make my favorite breakfast) or when my car broke down and you wouldn't let me borrow your car unless I promised to take it in that day. You've always put yourself out for our benefit. You're the only dad for us. Which makes sense because we're awesome! Congratulations on fathering such fantastic kids!
Happy Father's Day!

Dear Dad,
Mom made an interesting comment yesterday. She said that I'm an awesome father because I picked up a bunch of pointers from you. She said that you're awesome at it, and I have to agree! So I'm pretty sure I got all my "father" genes from you. I'm just glad I didn't get my father "jeans" from you. You think one day maybe you'll pitch all the pairs with holes? Anyway, thanks for all that you do for us and I love you very much.
Best,
Eddy

Dad,
You're not getting any younger. In fact, I think each year you get a little bit older. Maybe it's because I'm getting a little bit older and my perspective is changing, but lately I have realized how lucky I am. You are an incredible father. You are loyal, strong, caring ... everything that anyone could ask for in a father. And you're funny too! Seriously, thank you so much for being there through all of the good times and bad. But mostly the good! Love you!
Happy Dad's Day!

Dear Dad,
You're the best! I know we don't always show our appreciation in the right way and it can be hard to express our love sometimes. But I'm thankful for everything you've taught me, the support you've given me, and most of all the time we've spent together. I wouldn't be who I am today if it wasn't for you.
Love always,
Sally

Dear Dad,
No matter what I do with my life, Dad, I know I'll never be as good at being a dad as you. I say that not as an insult to myself, but as a compliment to you. You set the bar REALLY high, and I don't know how I could ever do better. Thankfully, I don't have to. You've shown me that doing my best is always enough, and that lesson has served me well throughout my life. Thanks for being the best dad there is!
Big love!

Thank you for being such an amazing, positive influence. You've shown me how to be a quality human being every day, by example. Happy Father's Day!

To the best dad in the world,
Happy Father's Day! Thank you for always taking the time to listen to me, even when I'm rambling. The mark of a real father is a guy that puts his kids first even when he falls a distant, DISTANT second. You've always been incredibly supportive and I can't thank you enough for that. It means more than you could possibly know!
